Valley Forge What A Truly Revolutionary Experience.
Valley Forge is one of the most important historical sites in American history. Eighteenth century armies rarely fought in the winter, instead they encamped until the spring thaw. In the winter of 1777 and 1778, George Washington’s battered Continental army encamped at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
Many died during the harsh winter, but Washington, with the help of a colorful former Prussian military officer, Baron Frederick von Steuban, managed to turn the ragged army into an effective fighting force. The Continental Army later went on to win the Revolutionary War.
Visiting Valley Forge is something that every American should do. It was here that the independence of our nation was secured. For the history buff, there are guided tours of the area or they are free to bicycle around the park. For those interested in archaeology, they can volunteer to help screen artifacts taken from sites around the park. There are special educational activities for young children, as well.
Valley Forge is a great attraction with activities for the entire family. Not only is it entertaining, but it is important for every American to know and honor how their country came into being, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice here. Can’t get enough? There’s more: Whistle Solo
